Today is my 1 month anniversary working for The Promo Addict. It’s been quite the adventure so far, learning lots and really getting into the swing of things. I’ve known the owners Russell and Jocelyn Bird for nearly 10 years, meeting Russell when he joined up at our local BNI chapter in Sherwood Park that I was already a member of. We got along quite well right from the start and I did what I could to refer him to anyone that was looking for promotional products. I respected how Russ looked after my referrals and did his very best to supply his customers with innovative ideas and top notch customer service that I could relate to. His approach to building relationships was the same as mine.
I made sure that when I went to work for Devco and Latium that when I saw opportunities for him to help that I always reached out to get his services. We kept in close contact over those years, more as friends than business associates.
Fast forward to early June 2020. I had left Devco at the end of February as it was really not the right environment for me and I was meeting with old friends and colleagues as best I could during the pandemic and Russ wanted to meet to have a coffee. Neither one of us thought about me working for The Promo Addict going into the meeting, we just wanted to meet and see how each other was doing. Once the conversation inevitability came to what my next work adventure would be, I talked about how my real search was to find a great work environment. I knew I could contribute to a number of types of businesses in many different roles, so my skillset was really suited for a small – medium sized business looking to grow.
The next Monday, Russ reached out to me saying that he and Jocelyn spent the weekend thinking about the conversation and how Jocelyn was looking to change her role within the company and spend more time at home with their young family. They offered me a position as Operations Manager, taking over a large chunk of what Jocelyn has been doing along with working with Russ to grow The Promo Addict in new and exciting ways. This was right up my alley and I didn’t take too long before I accepted the position.
One month in and things are going great. The transition is well underway and we are getting ready for an exciting fall and hopefully explosive growth in 2021!
